CBT – Compulsory Basic Training

This is a legal requirement.

It is a safe introduction to motorcycling through a course set down by the Driving Standards Agency.

It will enable you to ride your motorcycle, moped or scooter on public roads as a learner.

The course introduces you to basic riding skills and road craft.

The main focus of the day is getting you used to controlling the bike, for this reason a large portion of the course is spent in the safety of our off-road facility. This enables you to learn and practice the techniques needed without having to worry about other traffic.

Licenses

Category AM

Moped Entitlement. If you have a full car licence and you passed your car test before 1st February 2001, then you will have Category P on your Licence. This means you can ride a moped without L plates, and carry pillion passengers without having to take a test or CBT.

However if you have passed your test after the 1st of February 2001 the above entitlement no longer exists and you will have to undertake a full CBT.

Which will then entitle you to ride up to a 125cc either geared motorcycle or an automatic moped. Both which must display L plates.
